Anxiety and Depression

Everyone has experienced anxiety at one time or another.

But when we feel it often or intensely, we might need help.

Anxiety Feels Like…

“I’m doing it all wrong.”

“I feel like having other people make my decisions for me because I don’t trust myself.”

“People can see my anxiety and tell I don’t have it all together.”

“I have to be in control all the time.”

“I have racing thoughts that I can’t quiet.”

“I am constantly thinking that bad things are going to happen or thinking about worst-case scenarios.”

“I feel a pit in my stomach that aches.”

“I feel dizzy or light-headed when overwhelmed or stressed.”

“I want lots of reassurance from other people.”

“I worry that other people are angry or upset with me.”

“I worry about when will I have another panic attack, feel sick, cry uncontrollably, or not be able to sleep.”

“I feel as though I can’t focus or pay attention because I notice and am aware of everything else around me.”

Anxiety and Depression Go Hand-in-Hand

It’s no wonder: Most of these thoughts and experiences are so distressing you feel like they are never going to go away.

You feel hopeless… and maybe even angry with yourself for being this way. You think, what is wrong with me? Why can’t I just enjoy life and be in the moment?

What’s wrong is that you are struggling with anxiety—maybe even depression—alone. You need guided support to help you through those hard moments.

Therapy offers that support using evidence-based tools that show you how to manage your anxiety or depression for the long-term.

Anxiety and Depression in Children

Many of these symptoms are the same for children. The biggest difference, however, is that kids can’t always express what’s going on.

Anxiety in children is a great deceiver because it can look like a lot of different things. It can manifest as opposition, aggression… or the opposite of that: freezing or clinginess.

It can manifest at school: not paying attention, getting up all the time, asking a lot of questions, going to the bathroom a lot, or getting in other kids’ spaces.

A child can also tantrum or have a complete meltdown in the face of anxiety.

Anxiety can be a scary enough feeling for an adult… so imagine what a child must feel!
